Mis preguntas de investigación giran en torno a la vida social y política. Me interesa saber cómo los sujetos nos convertimos en actores políticos y conocer los efectos y el afectos que produce la violencia social y estatal en la vida de las personas y a nivel societal. A partir de estos intereses busco contribuir a la teoría social y antropológica sobre violencia, estado y derechos humanos y, su relación con prácticas revolucionarias y procesos democráticos, en el contexto global del neoliberalismo. Mi especialización regional está en Sur América y el Àrea Andina, en particular Bolivia y Chile, donde he llevado a cabo prolongados trabajos de campo en las ciudades de El Alto (Bolivia) y Santiago (Chile). En Bolivia he trabajado en torno a nociones vernáculas y urbanas de ciudadanía, en relación a prácticas de búsqueda de seguridad y bienestar y he estudiado las relaciones inter-generacionales en el contexto de las transformaciones revolucionarias acontecidas en dicho país. En Chile mis investigaciones, principalmente, se han centrado sobre experiencias de in/seguridad y la producción ciudadanía diferenciada en el marco de la transición democrática y en contextos de pobreza urbana. 

En la actualidad mis investigaciones giran en torno a dos grandes áreas: a) democracia neoliberal y, b) revolución desde una perspectiva material y diacrónica. A la vez estoy explorando las intersecciones metodológicas y analíticas entre el arte y ciencias sociales. He indagado sobre las prácticas y políticas de interculturalidad como una forma de gobernanza. En este contexto he realizado trabajo de campo con la policía chilena (Carabineros de Chile) en el contexto del llamado “conflicto Mapuche”. Recientemente este trabajo ha servido como inspiración para la obra TREWA, escrita por la dramaturga Paula González de la compañía KIMUN.

    My research questions revolve around the intersections of social and political life. I am interested in exploring how subjects become political actors and in analyzing the effects and affects produced by social and state violence in people’s everyday lives and in society at large. Parting from these interests I seek to contribute to the anthropological theory on violence, state -formation and human rights, particularly in relation to revolutionary practices and democratic processes in the global context of neoliberalism. My regional specialization is in South America and the Andean Area, in particular Bolivia and Chile, where I have carried out long-term field work in the cities of El Alto (Bolivia) and Santiago (Chile). In Bolivia I have worked on vernacular and urban notions of citizenship in relation to issues of security and people’s safety-seeking practices and I have studied inter-generational relations in the context of the revolutionary transformations that have taken place in the past decades. In Chile my research has mainly focused on experiences of in/security and the production of differentiated citizenship during the democratic transition and in contexts of urban poverty. 

    Currently my research revolves around two major areas: a) neoliberal democracy and b) revolution from a material, spatial and diachronic perspective. I am also currently exploring the methodological and analytical intersections between art and social science. One line of inquiry is interculturalism in relation to state-formation and as a form of democratic governance: I have carried out field work with the Chilean police (Carabineros de Chile) in the context of the so-called "Mapuche conflict”. Recently, this research has inspired the play TREWA by dramaturgist Paula Gonzalez and the KIMUN theater company.
