  • English Bio

I did my undergraduate studies at Universidad de Chile, receiving my degree in Anthropology with mention in Archeology the year 2007. I specialized in paleo-ethno-botany, a discipline that seeks to understand the past interactions between humans, plants and their landscapes. Since then, several studies and archaeobotanical analyzes have been carried out in Northern and Central Chile, from the Paleoindian period to the Inca times (approximately 13000-500 AP). My doctorate at University College London was about the origins of agriculture in the Atacama Desert. We are currently investigating the Anthropocene and how human societies have transformed the desert since they enter this territory. My academic career has been marked by addressing social aspects together with natural ones, and not as independent spheres. Research on how past societies have interacted and perceived their environment, becomes a valuable source of information to understand the present and propose alternatives of development.
